Antique Iron Hardware

Our inventory of original antique iron hardware includes antique iron thumb latches (bean or Suffolk latches, spade latches, Norfolk latches and exterior latches) as well as antique iron hinges (strap hinges, H hinges, etc.) and other antique iron door hardware. We also occasionally carry other interesting antique iron implements, including antique wrought iron nails.


On Hold Blacksmith Made, Signed, Vintage Caliper

This caliper is in great condition. Easily moves and has all it’s original parts. It is also signed by maker: T. O’Brien. Fine file marks can be seen all over the surface and very little pitting, if any. No damage that I can see. Very high quality. Used and stored very carefully. It measures 8” tall and opens to just under 8” between caliper tips.

New 6″, Matched Pair, H-L Hinge #13

6” long and wide, matched pair of 18C. H-L hinges in great condition. Depending on your taste, they can be used as is or have the paint removed. This is not an assembled pair. If needed, #24, small, straightened and cleaned up, hand wrought nails with leather washers can be supplied at $3.25 each, or $78 for all 24.

Original Keepers

This is an assortment of original, 18C drive keepers and a few supported keepers. They have been stripped of paint and brushed to remove rust. Refer to the number next to the keeper when ordering.

Cost: The drive keepers (straight like a nail) are $25 each. The supported keepers are $45 each. (SOLD: #1, #3, #5)

Reproduction Supported Keepers

I had these made years ago from a local blacksmith. Each one is a bit different in size. Tape measure gives you a rough idea of size. They are hand forged and look nice. Nail and leather washer for support included.

Sold Matched Set of Foliated H-L Hinges #12

This is a set of matched pairs of 18C, hand wrought, foliated H-L hinges. Hinges measure 7&1/4” tall x 5&1/2 wide. A very rare find. Restored, true (flat) and in excellent condition. Thicker than normal foliated hinges and great file work and detail. Hinges come with #56 18C, hand wrought rose head nails and square leather washers.

Large H-L Hinge Pair #11

Large, matched pair of 18C, hand wrought H-L hinges. They measure 9” x 9” and have been restored with no damage to original welds and are true (flat). They come with #24 original hand wrought 18C, rose head nails and square leather washers.

Sold Open Face Spring Latch #1

This is a restored spring latch with polished brass knobs and includes a period style keeper and new screws that have had the zinc ground off and head colored to blend in. It measures 4” x 4” and has a very attractive, deep tapered bar.

Sold Hand Forged Keeper #1

Unique, LH, hand forged open face spring loaded keeper. Keeper slides down as bar hits it and springs back up to secure bar. This is the first one I have seen in over 30 years. It measures 2.5” tall x 4” wide. Keeper sticks out from door jamb 1&3/4”. Great look, restored and in working condition.

Thumb Latch Batch #9

#23 roughly similar spade and arrow head type, through the cusp, 18C., interior thumb latches. EXCLUDES thumb latch in TOP RIGHT (It is latch #8, signed and in excellent condition). All have thumbs and in various condition, but all are good, some excellent. At least one is signed.

Cost: #23 @ $200, whole batch only, $4,600. I will consider partials with a minimum of #4 latches at a higher price.
